Welcome to Westridge Golf Club!!

Golf at Westridge Golf Course is meant to be fun. Sounds sort of obvious doesn't it? The problem is; so many golf courses out there are designed to be fun for one level or style of play only leaving everybody else to languish in frustration.

hole1Some are great senior courses-relatively straight forward and short with very little excitement. Some are great "Players Courses" where if you've got a handicap over 10, you've got no chance of making par (no less birdie) and you lose every ball in your bag by the 13th hole; while others are resort courses where you're playing out of someone's back yard and, if you play a slice, you're taking tiles off somebody's roof for sure.

Westridge Golf Course is fun for golfers of all skill levels no matter what your idea of fun golf is. If you're looking for a challenge provided by true championship golf, or you're idea of a good day on the links is not losing any golf balls, Westridge more than fits the bill.

Measuring a respectable 6,453-yards from the blue tees, and carrying a slope of 122, Westridge is not the most difficult challenge for the low handicapper, but does provide a serious test when the wind is blowing (which is almost always since the landscape is relatively treeless).

But for those of us who are looking for a little more fun and a little less challenge, the white tees measure 6,050-yards and carry a slope of 117. And for the junior and senior golfers, the gold tees measure 5,559-yards with a slope of 113.

The way the golf course is laid out is what makes it fun. There is very little in the way of direct water hazards, yet there are scenic lakes and ponds throughout the course. In fact, your greatest risk of drowning a golf ball comes from a short carry on the approach to the signature par 4 #14. Other than that, there's only a little water to worry about on #10 and you should go home with as many balls as you take on the course.

hole3Fairway bunkers are rare and green-side bunkers usually frame the hole and do not impede a good roll-up from the fairway. The greens vary in size, but are always undulating and fast--the way only bent grass greens can be fast. In fact, Westridge is the very first golf course in the area to use bent grass on the entire course, tee-to-green.

Simply because Westridge isn't score-card killing difficult, doesn't mean that it shouldn't be taken very seriously as a golf course. The beautiful, bent-grass fairways seem to roll across the landscape like a green carpet unrolling before you as you make your way to the eclectic group of undulating greens.

When Don Bachaus designed Westridge, he took full advantage of the combination of border-line kettle moraine landscape and old pasture lands that typify the area. Nowhere is that more evident than on Westridge's other signature hole, the par 3, #10.

A short, 140-yards, #10 gracefully drops across the naturally formed, glacial ridge to an always fast, undulating green. Add to that the carry across a a sediment pond and you've got a world-class hole that any championship golf course would gladly sport.

And the finishing hole, the par 5, #18 is a true, risk-reward challenge. There's not a lot in the way of OB at Westridge, but you'll find it all down the right side of this relatively short par 5. Bunkers both left and right require a laser-straight tee shot, or a 260-yard carry to avoid.

hole9Once safely off the tee, the lay-up is guarded by a small bunker about 85-yards out. If you choose to avoid the bunker by not laying-up at all, going for this green can be treacherous. Distance control is key, as a large pond surrounds most of this very small green and that includes long-left and long-right.

The beauty of these holes is that they can offer the same challenge for the low handicapper as they do for the novice. 18 only plays 450 from the white tees which makes the "How much can I bit off" question just as applicable to him/her as it does to the big hitter.

That's the beauty of golf at Westridge where the goal is to make the experience as player-friendly as humanly possible. You can choose your challenge. We'll do our very best to make sure you do what you're supposed to do on the golf course--HAVE FUN!
